About Measure Y

About Measure Y

Woodland voters passed Measure Y in 2020 to improve schools and facilities. At the time, schools were shut down due to the pandemic. Undeterred, the District made strides in recovering from the impacts of the pandemic, finalizing Measure Y designs, approving construction plans, and building partnerships to improve school facilities.

The $44 million bond will make our schools safer, more secure, and more inviting while building even more community pride in our schools.

This includes:

✅ Security upgrades like new gates, fencing, security cameras, and classroom door locks
✅ Revitalizing our schools with fresh paint
✅ Improving access points for safely picking up and dropping off students
✅ Improving ADA accessibility (Americans with Disability Act)

The Woodland Joint Unified School District community celebrated the completion of the first group of Measure Y bond school safety upgrades with ribbon-cutting ceremonies on Aug. 14, the first day of school.

The first group of schools to receive the much-needed safety upgrades were Beamer, Dingle, and Gibson elementary schools and Cache Creek High School.
School principals were joined by Superintendent Elodia Ortega-Lampkin, Board Trustees, district administrators, and students, to mark the special occasion with ribbon-cutting ceremonies at each location.

Afterward, students and families streamed onto campuses filled with excitement to start the school year at their newly upgraded facilities.

Measure Y bond updates include:

  • Security upgrades like new gates, fencing, security cameras, and specialized emergency door locks to keep students and staff safe.
  • Improved access points for safely picking up and dropping off students
  • Improved ADA accessibility (Americans with Disability Act)
  • A revitalized look with a fresh, new paint job

All WJUSD schools will receive safety upgrades from the $44 million Measure Y bond, which was approved by Woodland voters in 2020.

“Our District has $600 million in facility improvement needs and the $44 million from the Measure Y bond is a great start to begin addressing some of those needs, and we’re starting with safety,” said Superintendent Elodia Ortega-Lampkin. “Our gratitude goes out to our entire Woodland community for supporting these improvements, which will enhance safety and learning experiences for all students and staff.”

Our District broke ground on the improvement projects in June 2024, including installing 14 much-needed HVAC units at Woodland High School.

As summer school programs begin and preparations for the opening of next school year are in full swing, progress continues at Woodland Joint Unified School District as construction kicked off this month on Measure Y school improvement projects.

Our District broke ground on improvement projects at five schools this month, including a project to install 14 new, much-needed HVAC units at Woodland High School.

“We deeply appreciate our Woodland community for investing in our students and schools,” said Superintendent Elodia Ortega-Lampkin. “The $44 million Measure Y funds will make our schools safer, more secure, and more inviting while building even more community pride in our schools. We’re so excited for students and families to return in the fall and see their new improved schools.”

Construction is underway on Beamer, Dingle, and Gibson elementary schools and Cache Creek High School, with other schools to be upgraded in future phases.

While Measure Y funds are helping to improve school safety, there are more improvements identified by our District for schools and facilities.

“We have identified over $600 million in school facility improvement needs,” said Board President Rogelio Villagrana. “The $44 million in Measure Y funds is a good start toward addressing our school improvement needs and we're beginning by improving safety. Thank you to Woodland voters for supporting our students and community.”
