If you are a mandated reporter, you are legally required to report if you know or
reasonably suspect abuse of a child. You can not be held civilly or criminally liable
for reporting. However, it is a crime NOT to report.

ALL school district employees as defined on the Penal Code Section 11165.7, who reasonably suspect abuse of a child.
Reasonable suspicion - when a person entertains a suspicion, based upon facts that could cause a reasonable person in a similar position, based on his/her training or experience. Does NOT require certainty that the abuse or neglect has occurred. ANY REASONABLE SUSPICION IS SUFFICIENT.

You are required to make a report whenever you have knowledge of or observed a child (an individual under the age of 18) who you know, or reasonably suspect has been a victim of ANY of the acts below:
- Physical Abuse
- Physical injury or death inflicted by means other than accident by another person
- Emotional Abuse
- Willfully cruelty or unjustified punishment
- Acts or omissions that have or could cause serious behavioral, cognitive, emotional, or mental disorders
- Sexual Abuse
- Sexual assault and sexual exploitation
- General Neglect
- Failure of a caregiver to provide adequate food, clothing, shelter, medical care, or supervision, where no physical injury to child has occurred
- Severe Neglect
- The negligent failure of a caregiver to protect the child from severe malnutrition or medically diagnosed nonorganic failure to thrive
- Situations where the caregiver willfully causes or permits the child to be placed in a situation such that his or her person or health is endangered

If a child is at risk of imminent harm, CALL 911
- IMMEDIATELY or as soon as practically possible by telephone to one of the following agencies:

- Yolo County Child Welfare Services Abuse Reporting Hotline at 530-669-2345 OR 1-888-400-0022
- OR Woodland Police Department at 530-661-7800
- OR Sheriff's Deparment at 530-668-5280

- Within 36 hours complete and submit Suspected Child Abuse Report (Form 8572)

- FAX: 530-661-6012 or EMAIL: ChildAbuseReport@yolocounty.org
- All reports are CONFIDENTIAL, including the reporter's identity, and may only be disclosed among agencies receiving or investigating the reports and in other limited contexts
- YOUR identity shall not be disclosed to the district by the receiving agency unless you consent to such disclosure or by court order

- IT'S THE LAW! Child Abuse and Reporting ACT: Penal Code sections 11164-11174
- A person who fails to make a required report is guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in jail and/or up to a $1,000 fine (California Penal Code Section 11166[c]).
