WOODLAND, Calif. - Representatives from Woodland’s sister city, La Piedad, Michoacan, Mexico, toured Woodland High School Oct. 13 to learn about the various classes and programs offered at the school.

Upon arriving, the delegation of more than 20 elected leaders and public officials from La Piedad were greeted by Superintendent Elodia Ortega-Lampkin, Board President Jake Whitaker, Board Vice-President Rogelio Villagrana, Board member Bibiana Garcia, WHS Principal Peter Lambert, and student ASB representatives Jace Williams, Isabella Fernandez, Carter Imbach, Mia Rodriguez, Yesika Tapia, and Mackenzie Barrios.

The Woodland High School cheer team also greeted the delegation with welcoming cheers as delegates made their way to the auditorium.
The tour kicked off with a musical performance of jazz and mariachi music by WHS Visual and Performing Arts students.

ASB students then led groups of delegates throughout campus and visited classes and Career Technical Education (CTE) programs, including Chicano studies, U.S. history, auto tech, agricultural engineering, welding, and construction.

The tour culminated in the library with lunch personally prepared and served by WHS culinary arts students.

“It was my honor to host the delegation from La Piedad, Michoacan at Woodland High School and showcase some of the great work our students and staff are doing,” said Principal Lambert. “Our WHS students and staff did such a great job welcoming the delegation and showing them what our high school has to offer.”

“Many of our students are from La Piedad, Michoacan,” said Superintendent Ortega-Lampkin, “So it was special for the delegation to visit Woodland High School as part of their tour throughout the region. It was great to see our students beaming with pride as they showed off their school.”

The delegation, which was joined by Woodland Community College President Art Pimentel and Woodland Mayor Pro Tempore Vicki Fernandez, also visited Woodland Community College, UC Davis, and the Mexican Consulate Building in Sacramento.
